I’ve been coaching for a long time and I have seen many variables that can influence the outcome of ones success or lack thereof, but the one thing that is constant is this…..
THE WRONG RELATIONSHIP CAN MESS YOU UP JUST RIGHT!!!!
Do you know that your relationships can stand in the way of your dreams?
Are you in a relationship with an athlete and need to make sure you don’t misstep or make a mistake?
Well, my friend, I have watched people’s lives, sporting careers and finances ruined because of a bad relationship. I have seen spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends, significant others and side pieces ACTUALLY go out of their way to ruin and mess up another person’s life. And I have seen them do everything that they thought was right end up making everything so wrong. 🙁
I always tell my clients, “choose your friends wisely” because nothing can mess up your career quite like a relationship can. And you bed mate can ruin your career.
Here’s What every person who is an elite athlete or associated with an elite athlete should know!
A few years ago I created what some would call “A Relationship Guide For Athletes.” In the book that I wrote, I provided some real world advice and hard to get access to exclusive information for elite athletes. It is not bogged down with psycho-babble or theoretical brouhaha. It contains real world experience from an observational and experience-based standpoint. And quite honestly this book has helped many athlete attain accolades such as Olympian, Ironman, World Champion, and National Champion.
This is not your typical relationship guide. IT IS THE REAL DEAL. And, YES, when I mean real deal, I mean REAL DEAL. So if you are under 18, you may want to wait on reading this one. 🙂
This guide is for elite athletes and their close friends and families and should be digested by every athlete and anyone expecting to engage or who is engaged in some kind of relationship with a highly-driven athlete.
– What it really means to be emotionally involved with an athlete
– How to appropriately manage your personal relationships to enhance your career
– Why it is good to be selfish
– How friends and athletes should interact, but most of the times don’t…. to their peril
– How families should behave
– What it means to date or marry an elite athlete
– The imperatives of why your career must always come first!
In this groundbreaking book, you will finally be able to understand the relationship dynamics that affects an athlete’s life.
If you are an athlete, it will reduce your guilt and refocus your priorities. And let’s face it…. all athletes feel guilty from time to time because we want so much, ask so much, demand so much and give so little, expect to our sport, coaches and practice. It’s actually really ugly when you look at it but as Michael Jordan said… we do it for “the love of the game.”
If you are a family member, love interest or friend this book will let you know what role you can expect to play in a “career comes first” relationship.
In closing, I do understand that many athletes will think that they don’t have the time to read this or digest. And that some coaches will not take the time to read it or listen to it but I also KNOW this. The difference between being great and being good as less to do with athletic skill and more to do with closing the information gap. It’s the things that you do not know which affect you the most. Remove the blind spots so that you can be the best. You will be glad that you did.
Thank you so much for reading my post and I hope you found it encouraging and I also encourage you to pick up my book which is available on Amazon, “Enhance or Destroy Your Athletic Career: Relationship Lessons from an Elite Athlete“
