Greetings:

I hope you are having a wonderful Labor Day weekend and that you are enjoying your day off.  This weekend was awesome for me. It started out with a wonderful date night with my wife Traci.

We were able to listen to some old school R&B at a concert which featured Frankie Beverly and MAZE.  The other artists that performed were Kelly Price and Tank. The concert was amazing and after it was finished we left with a wholesome feeling and just felt good about the time that we spent together that evening. We were able to talk, dance, laugh, people watch and sing together.  It was pretty awesome.

Those you who are married with children know how hard it can be to squeeze in a good date night.

This was a good one!!

AFTER LEAVING THE CONCERT
ON SATURDAY NIGHT…….

After leaving the concert on Saturday night, I remembered that my alma mater, Howard University, was playing UNLV in Las Vegas.  It was a West Coast game so the scores will still being updated as I was driving home.  When I arrived home, I checked the score again and found out that Howard was up with only 2:34 remaining on the clock.

I was so excited that I didn’t know what to do. Especially since, this was going to be, as ESPN.com put it, “biggest point-spread upset in college football history.

I was following the game closely and with 15 seconds left I recall saying….. “They are going to do it!!!!”

When the time finally hit 00:00 the scoreboard read:

I cannot tell you how excited I was. As a 3-sport athlete at Howard (football, wrestling, track) and a Hall of Fame inductee, I just love it when my school does well athletically, scholastically and academically.  It was just a joy and a pleasure to read and see all of the headlines of “Howard STUNS UNLV.”

BACK TO WORK…..

The date night was great and the outcome of the game was nice but……. work still has to be done.

Last night was riddled with coaching calls and emails. I had an e-executive meeting with the President and the Head Coach of the Bahamas Judo Federation on the direction, programming and the athletes in the program. It was a great working meeting where we discussed some of the human resource and managerial issues to make things work smoother in the future. I also had to follow up with the attendees of my seminar on the 30th of September on The Clock Choke, which will be held in Tampa, Florida at my school Tampa Florida Judo.

I enjoy holding deliberate practice seminars and really getting into the details of how to make a move work in competition and how to make sure that it is as technically sound as possible.  I also enjoy sharing and teaching and becoming a better teacher and coach in the process, while enhancing the lives of coaches and players.

If you are available to attend anyone of my seminars in the near future, I would love to have you there.   My next seminar in Tampa, Florida is on the 30th of September on The Clock Choke.

The details are here:  DELIBERATE PRACTICE CLOCK CHOKE SEMINAR
