Okay this may seem simple and not serious but it is. But on this last day…my 5th day of my gratitude exercise I want to say that I am thankful for having food in my refrigerator.

My children are very blessed.

They have not grown up without having food in the fridge. Every time they look in there they have the option of making a “decision” about what they want and what they don’t want. I was not so blessed all the time.

There was a season where I looked in there and I was bare. There was the lone jar of jelly in there and then there was the bag of bread where the ends were left and you have to decide if you wanted to make a sandwich or just put some jelly and peanut butter in a bowl and mix it and eat it.

My parents didn’t buy kool-aid or drinks like that so you had to learn how to mix the jelly in some cold water and make yourself some “grape juice.”

I used to get on my bike sometimes and ride around the neighborhood and ask the neighbors for bottles so that I could take them to the store to redeem them and get some candy.

So as I sit here writing while eating my salmon, kale & quinoa, and artichoke hearts, I want to say that I am grateful that when I open my refrigerator today that there is food in it.
