Today I am thankful as you should be for the opportunity to breathe. As a martial artist, I get the opportunity to train against people and try to choke them and submit them. To try to actually, stop them from breathing for a second or to literally “take their breath” away.

If you’ve ever done brazilian jiujitsu or judo, then you know how difficult it can be to breathe when you get in tough situations. You also understand how important it is to access air when you are in tight situations. This provides you with some perspective when it comes to breathing.

For the most part, if you’ve never been in a situation where you couldn’t breathe, you really do not have a great amount of respect for air… for breath… for the blessing of breathing. But I’m here today to tell you that it is the one thing that allows you to be able to exist today. If you stop breathing…. you are done. It is finished. And when we get stuck in tight situations, the one thing that you have to stop and do immediately is…. BREATHE. It seems silly but that is the number one piece of advice that all fighters get when they get back to their respective corners in fights because breathing actually calms you and puts you back in touch with yourself.

If you have not sat down and just focused on your breathing and your breath, you should do it. You will be surprised how 3 to 5 minutes of meditation and focusing on your breathing will center you, help you and calm you.

Also today I would like to give you my free dummy training program. If there’s one thing that has really enhanced the technical development of some of the students in my dojo it is this. They have really improve greatly and one of the major reasons why is because they are doing the reps without being distracted. So today I want to give you access to the same things that they have access to. —> Here’s the link to my FREE dummy training program
